Certification standards from Global Organic alliance:
Operations seeking initial certification must establish, implement and submit an organic production or handling plan and operations seeking continued certification must submit an updated organic production or handling plan annually. Organic production operations must provide the total organic acreage, transitional acreage and year of transition, and conventional acreage, three-year field histories and field maps, and ingredient labels for inputs used by the operation. Handling operations must provide facility maps, process flow charts, ingredient labels for all inputs, and product compositions sheets disclosing the ingredients and their respective percentages in multi-ingredient products that certification is being requested for. Crops, livestock, and processed products shall not be retroactively certified. Crops harvested prior to the first inspection are not eligible for organic certification; however, the land may still be considered for certification. In addition, operations must permit on-site inspections with complete access to the production or handling operation, including non-certified production and handling areas, structures, and offices.
